As you would by now know, I love Africa.
I have been taking groups on vocational exploration expeditions since 2006 and this video that I want to share with you explains, beautifully I might add, why I keep going back there.
As a vocational coach it is crucial to understand the importance of listening. When we listen to someone else telling us something about their dreams or what they feel passionate about, we help them better understand the process of self discovery by creating a space to talk about those things that other people with no imagination would laugh about. ‘I want to sail around the world. I want to become a lawyer. I want to start my own business.’ And so it goes, unheard dreams deafened by the constant backlash of a cynics whip.
You would be surprised how much hurt people have inflicted when they answer too quickly or when they do not listen carefully, especially in Africa.
This is a great video to explain how listening to others will create self worth. Not only for the listener, but also for the person telling his or her story.
